In October of 1996, our three and a half year old daughter contracted Spinal Meningitis. She was hospitalized for two whole weeks and remained in a coma for about a week. She lost all of her hearing around the middle of November 1996, due to the infection.

You just can't imagine the pain of having your little girl look sadly into your eyes and say, "Daddy, I sing my songs, but they don't sing back nomore".

After some extensive research and a lot of praying, we found out about a Cochlear Implant. We quickly decided that this was what our little girl needed. Like most parents, we wanted the best for our little one, and on January 7, 1997, she received the implant. It was connected and programmed on February 14, 1997. Several months went by and we saw little improvement, but suddenly she started hearing and understanding what we were saying, and started to really respond to us.

Today she holds a normal conversation like any other four-year old child. She has three Dogs, a St. Bernard named Brutus, a Boxer named Spike, a long haired Chihuahua named Ti Toe, a Cat named Sassy, another Cat named Oliver, two Rabbits, Frogs, Hamsters, Guinea Pigs and some Fish, that all have names as well.

We decided that we wanted to do something for all of the other Children of the Silent World. We wanted to help these little children have a chance to hear again with the Cochlear Implant. We also provide American Sign Language classes for the families, friends, and neighbors of the hearing impaired. Our instructors go to their homes and churches and work around the schedules of those who need the classes.
